Santa Maria Replica
This is the frame the float was built on. Welding done by Chris Gerhardt's class.
Wood planks added to frame for the floor of the float. Work done by Tom Bormann.
Here is the framework over half done. Framed by Tom Bormann, Dick Erpelding, Milo Kollasch, and Doug Kollasch.
Here is the float with all sides done and stained. There will be gold strips of wood to decorate like the Santa Maria ship. Also will add the masts for the sails and skirting to hide the wheels.
Main mast added. Sails and rope ladder added. Sails painted by Al Laubenthal. Other work done by Tom Bormann and Doug Kollasch
Second mast and sail added. Work done by Tom Bormann. Sails look great on a breezy day! If interested in helping on the float, we have it at Tom Bormann's building outside of St. Joe.
This is the Santa Maria finished! It's maiden voyage was July 3, 2004 in the West Bend Parade.
The float won 1st place in the Family division of the West Bend parade. |
